COVID - 19
You’re probably wondering what the birth of your child will look like during the global pandemic we’re experiencing, I’m sure it’s not what you envisioned when you found out you were pregnant! I’ve the honor of supporting many births over the course of the pandemic and I can honestly say that it is still possible to have a positive and empowering birth experience. Birthworkers - nurses, OBs, midwives, and doulas - are committed to supporting you and helping you have the best experience possible. Also, I’m vaccinated and boosted!
What to expect? If you’re delivering in a hospital, your support staff (including your doula) will be masked. You will be required to stay in your room during labor but we can still keep you comfortable and moving. The upside, you don’t need to get dressed to walk the halls! Most hospitals are limiting support to one partner and a doula, often requiring them to stay in your room as well. You can still order food from the cafeteria and the nurses are often happy to bring you as much water and ice as you’d like! After the birth of your baby, skin to skin is still prioritized as well as introducing breastfeeding if you choose to. For the postpartum part of your stay, you are allowed to have one support person - either a partner or doula.
